A ridge lies over the North Island today while northwesterlies lie over the South Island, a front moves onto the lower South Island in the evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mainly sunny, a touch of cloud at times from afternoon for some areas. Light winds tending northeast after midday.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny spells with light winds tending west to northwest in the afternoon. Low risk of a shower in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-20

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny weather with light winds.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny, some cloud about Nelson in the evening. North to northwesterly winds, picking up in the afternoon about Marlborough.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury
Mainly sunny with increasing high cloud, north to northeasterly winds.

Highs: 20-23

West Coast

Cloudy areas, the odd drizzle patch, more likely the further one goes into South Westland. Rain moves into South Westland later in the evening with heavy falls. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Southland & Otago

Thick high cloud, scattered spots of rain possible otherwise long dry periods too. Weather during the day is likely to be drier about Otago with a few spots of rain not looking as likely till later in the evening or overnight. Light north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-19
