A high is centred in the Tasman Sea west of the North Island on Thursday directing a west to northwesterly airflow over New Zealand.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny although there may be more frequent areas of cloud at times, west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, westerly winds becoming breezy in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-21

Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny with some high cloud. Light winds in the morning, afternoon east to northeasterly winds about the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 24-26

Wellington
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, breezy northerly winds.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud at times, west to northwesterly winds becoming breezy in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-26

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, isolated showers may develop about South Canterbury in the afternoon some possibly heavy with a risk of thunder. Breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 26-27

West Coast
Showers, heavy at times especially late afternoon / evening. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Showers about Southland from morning, rain at times in the afternoon. A chance of morning sun for Otago then patchy showers develop in the afternoon, some may become heavy about coastal Otago with the chance of a thunderstorm then easing later in the evening. Gusty westerly winds ease from afternoon.
Highs: 16-22
