Northerlies change to the west this afternoon over the North Island while southwesterly winds sweep northwards over the South Island. Most regions can expect rain or showers today with gusty winds for the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Some rain, possibly heavy then easing to showers around midday as northwest winds change gusty westerly. Showers mostly clearing in the evening although one or two may remain in the west.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Areas of rain (heavy about Taranaki and possible the Central North Island) then easing to showers in the afternoon as northerlies tend gusty west to northwest.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Spells of rain, clearing in the afternoon as breezy northerly winds change westerly. Rain may not clear Gisborne till evening.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Showers breaking to mainly dry weather in the afternoon, perhaps some late sun. Breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Some rain then clearing around midday to a drier afternoon as northerlies tend breezy northwest. Some sun may break through from afternoon also.
Highs: 16-17

Canterbury

Spits of rain possible with thick high cloud then showers moves northwards this afternoon as northerlies change southwest, showers clear overnight. Parts of North Canterbury mainly inland may remain fairly dry.
High: 16

West Coast

Morning rain possibly heavy then easing to showers around midday as northerlies change southwest. Showers clear overnight.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago

Morning rain then easing to showers in the afternoon as northerlies change westerly, showers mostly clearing in the evening although not clearing coastal Otago till overnight.
Highs: 12-13

You guys were the only ones forecasting rain for here in Hawkes Bay! I live 20 – 30min north of Napier have had heavy rain all night, and minor floodiing.

MS forecast update last night went from rain clearing to “Mostly fine with the odd shower”

pretty disgraceful..
