A front moves off the upper South Island this morning then onto the lower North Island this afternoon, this front will likely bring some rain or showers as it moves northwards.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy. The odd light shower possible mainly about the Waikato and perhaps the Bay Of Plenty. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with the odd shower then rain moving in around midday, brisk to strong northwesterly winds ease in the afternoon Wanganui southwards then further north in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud from morning with gusty northwesterly winds, areas of rain move into the Wairarapa late morning on a southerly wind change. Some rain may brush Hawkes Bay late afternoon or evening for a time, Gisborne stays mainly dry but may see a spot or two.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington

Gale northwesterly winds change southerly late morning, rain develops in the morning then eases in the afternoon to the odd light shower.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with some morning rain then clearing by midday, northwesterly winds change southerly early afternoon. Mainly cloudy.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury

Early rain or showers clear, southerly winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon with sunny areas breaking through.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast

Early rain with heavy falls eases to showers and then clears by midday, perhaps a few sunny areas in the afternoon. Southwesterly winds.
High: 15

Southland & Otago

Areas of cloud with the chance of a shower now and then about Southland, sunny areas elsewhere. Gusty west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-15
