A front clears the North Island early this morning meanwhile a trough works its way over the upper South Island this morning then onto the North Island this afternoon. Certain a mixed bag instore today, for more details on your region check out the forecasts below.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas with the odd shower, especially early on and late evening. Breezy southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Showers, some may be heavy (especially mid to late afternoon) with hail then clearing later on or overnight. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-13

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterly breezes. A late afternoon or evening southwest change brings showers some of which may be heavy with hail then clearing by midnight.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington

Some cloud, a shower or two with brisk northwesterly winds. A mid afternoon southerly change brings further showers then easing later.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Areas of cloud with gusty northwesterly winds, the odd shower about mainly Nelson then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon as gusty northwesterly winds tend southwest.
Highs: 12-13

Canterbury

An early southwest change brings showers & a risk of hail, some snow to 400m (perhaps 300m) by midday. Showers ease this afternoon then clear by evening. Showers will be more coastal overall but a few will brush inland areas during the day.
High: 9

West Coast

Morning showers possibly heavy with thunderstorms and hail then easing around midday potentially clearing for most although a few could continue Greymouth northwards. Expect afternoon sunny areas otherwise with cold southwesterly winds. Cloud thickens again later in the evening then overnight further rain moves in.
High: 10

Southland & Otago

Cloudy areas with the odd shower, some small hail possible at times and the possibility of a snow flurry to low levels then clearing by evening. Long dry areas during the day also. Cold west to southwest winds.
Highs: 5-8
