A front moves off the South Island this morning and onto the North Island this afternoon, meanwhile about the deep south a fairly cold change moves in later this afternoon / evening bringing a resonable drop in temperatures.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy. The odd light shower develops this afternoon Auckland southwards then this evening expect spells of rain. Increasing northwesterly winds. Rain moves into Northland overnight.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with building northwesterly winds and the odd shower possible, areas of rain or showers more likely from midday then mostly clearing in the evening. Winds change southwest overnight.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

High cloud increases from morning, mid to late afternoon some rain spreads from the west then mostly clears in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

Cloudy with gusty northwesterly winds, showers towards midday then clearing later this afternoon.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy this morning, a few spots or areas of rain around late morning / midday then clearing. Cloud decreases this afternoon with sunny areas increasing. Winds gusty from the northwest. Overnight a southwest change moves in with a few showers.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury

Any spots of rain clear early this morning with high cloud decreasing towards midday, breezy northerlies ease. Mostly sunny this afternoon with light winds for most although westerlies may pick up inland, a late evening southwest change brings showers some of which may be heavy for a time with hail then easing overnight. Snow initially falling to 600m with the southwest change then lowering to 400m overnight before easing, snow is fairly brief so only small accumulations are likely.

West Coast

Rain with northerly winds, easing to showers this morning with a westerly change. Showers clear overnight as winds change southwest. Late afternoon and evening a period of heavy sustained showers moves into Fiordland with snow lowering to 400m then easing later on.
High: 15

Southland & Otago

The odd shower for coastal Southland, sunny areas elsewhere with westerly winds, a change to gusty southwesterlies late afternoon brings more sustained showers with hail and snow to 600m (800m for Otago) lowering to 300m at night before easing.
Highs: 11-14
