A northeasterly airflow increases over the country today ahead of a front which moves onto Northland this afternoon then slowly pushes further south. The South Island is still relatively settled although some areas see cloud and perhaps even some drizzle about Southland this morning.

Northland
Mostly cloudy with freshening northeasterlies from morning, rain moves in late morning. Rain possibly heavy for a time early / mid afternoon then easing back to showers.
Highs: 16-17

Auckland
Freshening northeasterly winds with cloud increasing from morning. Late afternoon some rain
develops, rain may be briefly heavy for a time.

High: 17

Bay Of Plenty

Cloud increases from morning, northeasterly winds. Evening rain.
High: 16

Waikato & Central North Island

A risk of morning fog then breaking to sunny spells and increasing high
cloud, northeasterly winds. Some patchy rain moves in late afternoon /
evening.
Highs: 15-18

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, some high cloud gradually
increases during the day with northeasterly winds. Patchy rain moves in
overnight.
High: 16

Taranaki

Sunny spells and increasing cloud with freshening northeasterlies, a few
patchy showers from mid to late afternoon.
High: 16

Western North Island
Fog
breaks to sunny spells, cloud then increases by late morning. The odd patchy
shower moves in mid to late afternoon. Light winds.

Wellington

Sunny areas with light winds, cloud increases from afternoon. Overnight
showers.
High: 14

Nelson

Sunny spells and increasing cloud from morning, light winds. Some rain
develops later in the evening.

Marlborough

Sunny spells and increasing cloud from morning, light winds. Some rain
develops later in the evening / around midnight.

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, light winds. Cloud thickens again
overnight.

West Coast

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds.

Coastal Otago

Morning cloud breaks to afternoon sunny spells, light winds.

Central Otago

Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, light winds.
High: 12

Southland

Morning drizzle clears, remaining fairly cloudy with light east to
southeast winds although a few sunny breaks may push through in the
afternoon.
