A ridge lies over the country today extending out from an anticyclone centred east of New Zealand. Many areas may see morning cloud or fog then burning away. Watch for isolated showers afternoon / evening about western parts of the North Island north of Taranaki.

Northland
Cloudy areas and sunny spells at times, sunny spells especially in the west. There may be a brief shower at times in eastern areas during the day and perhaps late afternoon / early evening right on the west coast then clearing.
Highs: 22-23

Auckland

Sunny spells and periods of cloud with light east to southeasterly winds.
Risk of an isolated shower in the afternoon and early evening, especially about
western parts of the city then clearing.
Highs: 22-23

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells with the chance of an early fog patch, light winds tend
northeasterly in the afternoon. Risk of a late isolated shower.
Highs: 22-23

Waikato & Central North Island

Morning fog clears then expect mostly sunny weather with light winds. A few
isolated showers possible afternoon and early evening, especially about western
Waikato and western parts of the Central North Island.
Highs: 22-24

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny after morning cloud clears, light winds at first then
afternoon east to northeast winds. About Gisborne northwards expect cloudier
skies during the day with a brief shower or two now and then, easterly
winds.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island

Any morning low cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, light winds. About
northern Taranaki winds tend westerly in the afternoon, and a few isolated
afternoon showers develop then clear in the evening, especially inland.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington

Any early cloud breaks to sunny weather, northerly winds.
Highs: 19-20

Nelson

Morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, light winds at first then
afternoon northerlies.
High: 21

Marlborough

Any morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, light winds at first then
afternoon easterlies.
Highs: 21-22

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon. East to northeast winds.
Cloud may move in again later in the evening.
Highs: 20-21

West Coast

Patchy light rain or drizzle about Fiordland eases in the morning,
elsewhere expect a cloudy start then sunny spells breaking through in the
afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 18-19

Coastal Otago

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, east to northeast
breezes.
Highs: 17-18

Central Otago

A brief spit of early rain possible (mainly in the west of the district),
high cloud gradually decreases during the day with sunny spells breaking through
in the afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 22-24

Southland

Areas of high cloud decreasing in the afternoon, sunny spells slowly
increasing. Light winds may tend southerly after midday.
High: 20
