A south to southeasterly airflow lies over the South Island tonight, this brings areas of cloud in the south, north and east. Western regions have clearer skies in general but high cloud can be expected. For the North Island most places are looking cloudy, the odd shower about with northern and eastern parts of Northland in with the chance of a heavy fall or two overnight. 

Northland
Showers, mainly in the south some of which are heavy clearing away this evening. Later this evening / overnight further showers move into northern parts of Northland and some eastern parts, showers could be heavy with thunderstorms. Northeasterlies tend northerly by midnight.

Auckland

Cloudy periods with showers easing this evening and dry spells increasing,
there may be a few further showers overnight. Northeasterlies ease.

Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with occasional showers, some rain later this evening /
overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower or two, showers more likely about
the Waikato for a time this evening then easing overnight. Northeasterly
winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy with east to northeast winds, a few light showers move in
overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-10

Taranaki

Cloudy with easterly winds, freshening later. A few spells of rain move in
overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 10

Western North Island

Mostly cloudy with easterly winds, chance of a spot of rain or two
overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 9

Wellington

Periods of cloud increase this evening, light winds tend easterly. Chance
of a spit or two overnight otherwise dry.
Tonight’s Low: 8

Nelson

Areas of cloud increase this evening, a few light showers possible
overnight. Light winds.
Tonight’s Low: 7

Marlborough

Mostly cloudy with light southeasterlies, a few patchy showers move into
the Sounds later this evening then spread elsewhere by dawn tomorrow.
Tonight’s Low: 7

Canterbury

Cloud near the coast spreading inland this evening / overnight. There may
be some coastal drizzle Bank Peninsula northwards by dawn tomorrow. Light
winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 2-4

West Coast

Some high cloud, light winds tend southeasterly overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

Coastal Otago

Areas of cloud move in this evening, light winds may tend southerly
overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 5

Central Otago

Some high cloud, chance of a few areas of low cloud mainly about southern
parts of the region. Light winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 2-3

Southland

Cloudy periods with light southerlies.
Tonight’s Low: 6
