A strong southwesterly airflow lies over the country tonight with cold temperatures for most. Showery conditions ease for most tonight although remaining fairly intense about Banks Peinusla, eastern Wellington and Wairarapa overnight.

Auckland & Northland
Strong southwesterlies with a risk of gales especially in the west. Showers, some heavy with hail then easing a little overnight. Conditions overall about Northland will be a little less intense, winds will still be blustery especially this evening.

Bay Of Plenty

A period of showers moves through this evening possibly heavy with hail
then clearing around midnight. Gusty cold southwesterlies.
Tonight’s Low: 4

Waikato & Central North Island

Showers, some heavy with a risk of hail then clearing around midnight,
clear spells develop overnight with strong southwesterlies easing. Some snow
about the Central Plateau lowering to 400m before clearing.
Tonight’s Lows: -1-3

Eastern North Island

Showers, heavy at times (risk of snow to 400m) with hail then easing
overnight about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Showers remaining about the Wairarapa
with snow flurries lowering to 300m. Gusty cold southwesterlies
Tonight’s Lows: 3-5

Western North Island

Showers, some heavy with a risk of hail clearing around midnight. Clear
spells overnight with gusty southwesterlies strong about Taranaki.
Tonight’s Lows: 2-4

Wellington

Cloudy periods with the odd shower, strong southerlies. Showers more
persistent about eastern parts of the Wellington District, these showers may
contain hail at times and snow flurries to 300m.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

Nelson

Any remaining showers clear this evening then skies becoming clear, cold
southwesterlies ease.
Tonight’s Lows: 0-1

Marlborough

Showers (especially about Southern Marlborough), some may be heavy with
hail and snow flurries to 400m then clearing this evening. Gusty southwesterlies
ease overnight although remaining fresh on the coast.
Tonight’s Low: -1

Canterbury

Gusty southwesterlies strong about the coast. Clear spells and mainly dry
inland, nearer the coast especially Banks Peninsula expect showers some of which
may be heavy with hail and snow flurries to 200m.
Tonight’s Lows: 1-3

West Coast

Mainly clear skies overnight with cold southwesterlies easing, remaining
showers about and north of Westport clearing this evening.
Tonight’s Lows: -1-1

Coastal Otago

Showers and a risk of hail, a few snow flurries to 200m, easing overnight.
Strong southwesterlies.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-4

Central Otago

Any remaining wintry showers and snow flurries to low levels clear this
evening, cloud breaks overnight. Cold southwesterlies ease.
Tonight’s Low: -1

Southland

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, brisk west to southwest winds. A risk of
small hail at times too and snow flurries to low levels then lifting
overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 4-5
