Ex Tropical Cyclone Ita lies just off the coast west of New Zealand tonight, most of the severe weather across the North Island has eased although along the east coast and Wellington heavy rain is still likely (clearing Wellington overnight). Strong easterlies gusting to gale force are likely too about the east coast and lower North Island, however they will ease overnight. The South Island still has some rough weather to take in before this system eases tomorrow, heavy rain is likely in the east from Canterbury northwards. Strong to gale southeasterly winds will affect many especially in the west north of Hokitika although those winds will ease slightly overnight.
