A front works its way north over the South Island tonight however weakens as it does, still, expect some heavy rain on the West Coast and a few falls spreading east. In the North Island a ridge still clings on bringing mainly settled weather, some cloud does develop in the southwest however and Wellington gets the odd shower later in the night. Heavy showers with thunderstorms clear Hawkes Bay this evening.

Auckland & Northland
High cloud moves in this evening, sea breezes ease later. Light winds overnight.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Some high cloud developing this evening, northerlies ease about the Bay Of Plenty, light winds elsewhere. Isolated showers, some heavy about southeastern parts of the Central North Island clearing.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-15

Eastern North Island

Mainly clear skies with east to northeast breezes easing later this evening, light winds overnight. Heavy isolated showers with possible thunderstorms clearing from Hawkes Bay this evening.

Western North Island
Areas of cloud with westerly breezes easing later this evening.

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with brisk northerlies, chance of a drizzle patch. Showers develop later in the night.

Nelson

Fairly cloudy with north to northeast breezes easing later, showers develop overnight.

Marlborough

High cloud developing this evening, strong northwesterlies ease overnight. A shower or two towards dawn tomorrow morning.

Canterbury

Plenty of high cloud with a few spells of rain moving through this evening. Easterlies near the coast ease later this evening and tend northerly. Northwesterlies inland ease overnight.

West Coast

Rain, sometimes heavy with possible thunderstorms. Rain eases overnight to showers as northeasterlies change southwest.

Coastal Otago

Areas of rain this evening with winds changing southwest, rain clears around midnight with cloud breaking up a little overnight and southwesterlies easing.

Southland & Central Otago

Areas of rain clear this evening, clear spells develop overnight with west to southwest breezes.
