Hey Mr. Duncan; you know how you’re always telling us NZ’ers in your winter / Spring weater reports & forecasts ; that we in NZ, will ultimately get the same, recent weather patterns that Australia has been experiencing ? ; well, thats not exactly a true statement is it ? ; ’cause I’ve been following the Aussie weather forecasts over the past 2 to 3 months, and practically the whole of Oz has been enjoying high pressure, and mostly sunshine ; while large parts of this miserable little country, have been subject to RAIN , RAIN , RAIN + MORE RAIN + SMALL +”COLD + SMALL AMOUNTS OF SNOW !!!!

Hi Stephen, yes we often get their pattern and lately – as you notice – we’ve been on the edges of it. They have huge high pressure over them past few months and that is 100% impacting our weather in NZ as we’re on the edge of it. So I don’t say we get a carbon copy of Aussie’s weather – i say we get caught up in the same systems. So Aussie has high pressure over them – we’re on the edges of that, which is why it’s so unsettled here and mostly from the South-West. This is what we’ve been forecasting all year for late winter/early spring as it’s the El Nino pattern trying to form – high pressure in eastern Aussie and NZ on the edge of that. Aussie having highs over them and NZ being on the edge of them is a classic El Nino set-up (even though it’s not officially announced here yet).
– PD.
