As a ridge of high pressure moves onto the lower South Island overnight so do clearer skies and the potential for heavy frosts. Central Otago and inland South Canterbury dip down to -5 degrees tonight, perhaps some isolated spots may even hit -6 or -7. A bit warmer relatively speaking for the North Island but still feeling some chill especially in the west.
Southerlies keep eastern New Zealand cold on Wednesday, temperatures mostly average in the west. For South Westland temperatures are a little warmer than average, not just that but skies will be sunny and winds light.
