Temperatures are nearing 30 degrees this morning from Auckland to Napier as hot air mixes with high humidity.  The Humidex, which measures what the temperature feels like on the skin by adding humidity to the temperature, is recording a staggering 28 degrees in Auckland right now.  28 degrees is also currently being recorded in Coromandel and Hawkes Bay.

Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says today will be the hottest day for a number of North Island places so far this Summer.

Other places to feel the heat so early are Hamilton and New Plymouth on 26, Wellington on 24 and Christchurch on 23.

Duncan says the humid weather is very typical of La Nina.
