Parts of the South Island will be over 10 degrees hotter today than they where yesterday as the westerly airflow returns. In the North Island another mostly settled day with high air pressure but the upper North Island has a narrow area of rain affecting parts of Northland and Auckland.
NORTH ISLAND:
Light winds, developing from the northerly quarter. Mostly dry but an area of showers and rain over Northland and parts of Auckland will grow and become a bit heavier this afternoon. A few more showers may develop elsewhere tonight. There may be an isolated thunderstorm from Auckland northwards too.
Highs: 20 to 23 (a cooler day).
SOUTH ISLAND:
A few showers or downpours on the West Coast but mostly dry in the north and east with the heat returning to Canterbury after a chilly Saturday. Rain or showers return to Southland later as yet another cold front comes in with a chance of another dusting of snow for the ski fields around Queenstown tonight.
Highs: 18 to 27
