Upper North Island

Areas of rain push in during this morning, a few heavy falls possible with the odd lightning strike. Northland may see a greater chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain. Then generally easing this afternoon to showers as northwesterly winds change southwest.

Lower North Island

Areas of rain or showers clearing this morning then cloud breaking to sun this afternoon, south to southwesterly winds tend southeast this evening. The east coast sees mostly cloudy skies, spots of rain or the odd shower with westerlies changing to the south this afternoon. Late afternoon or evening sees more persistent rain for about northern Hawkes Bay / Gisborne.

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny along the West Coast, sunny spells elsewhere. Nelson / Marlborough see showers develop this afternoon especially over hills and ranges, some may become heavy with thunderstorms and hail then clearing this evening. Canterbury may see some sun first thing the cloud and showers move in, some may be heavy then clearing away from the coast this afternoon however perhaps remaining inland till evening.

Lower South Island

Cloudy areas and a few showers, easing this afternoon and clearing by evening. Some sun about also mainly for inland areas. Cool south to southwesterly winds.
