Upper North Island

Mostly cloudy with the odd light shower, rain moves in late afternoon or evening then eases overnight as breezy northerly winds change northwest.

Lower North Island

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain moves in during the afternoon then eases in the evening as northerlies change northwest. The east coast is mainly dry with thickening high cloud, a few spots of rain move through in the evening as northeasterly winds tend more northerly.

Upper South Island

Cloudy in the west with showers, turning to rain by midday with heavy falls and thunderstorms, northeasterly winds tend northwest. Thick high cloud out east, rain moves into Nelson and Marlborough then clears by late afternoon. Canterbury sees thick high cloud and gusty northeast winds, a few spots of rain in the afternoon then becoming mostly sunny as winds tend more northerly.

Lower South Island

Rain in the west with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms by midday, north to northeast winds change southwest overnight with rain easing. Out east expect thick high cloud, the odd spot of rain possible with breezy northeasterly winds strong about coastal Otago. Overnight a southwest change moves in bringing rain.
