Upper North Island

Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon, light winds tend southwest.

Lower North Island

In the west expect cloudy areas, winds from the west or northwest. Chance of the odd shower also. South of Taranaki the shower risk increases late afternoon / evening as a southerly change moves in. The East Coast can expect high cloud and dry weather, in the afternoon however as southerly winds moves in cloud increases and some patchy rain / drizzle gradually moves northwards, not reaching Hawkes Bay till later in the evening. Wellington sees southerlies move in by midday bringing patchy rain.

Upper South Island

Rain on the West Coast, gradually moving northwards as the day goes on with the chance of a heavy fall or two. Northwest winds change southwest. Canterbury sees patchy light rain or drizzle, mostly clearing in the evening as southerly winds tend northeast. Nelson and Marlborough are dry with high cloud and northwest winds, rain moves in around midday with southerlies then eases overnight.

Lower South Island

Morning showers clear then sun breaks through, south to southwest winds tend northeast during the afternoon.
