Upper North Island

Morning rain moves in then clearing with light northwesterlies changing breezy westerly, sunny areas develop after rain clears although the odd shower may linger out west. In the evening there is a greater risk of a few showers in the west, drier out east especially for the Bay Of Plenty.

Lower North Island

Morning rain then easing to showers in the west and about Wellington as northerlies tend more west to northwest, chance of a thunderstorm in the morning also. Later in the evening or overnight a few showers may becoming heavy near coastal areas in the west with the chance of a further thunderstorm or two. Morning rain for the Wairarapa then pushing further north along the east coast in the afternoon, rain could be heavy for a time with a clap of thunder as it pushes north.

Upper South Island

Showers, heavy with thunderstorms at times on the West Coast with northwesterly winds. Showers which could be heavy at times may spread into Nelson and Marlborough occasionally but expect long dry spells too. In the evening winds swing around to the south or southwest with shower activity easing for all. Canterbury has sunny areas and some cloud about with light winds, southerly winds pick up in the afternoon with showers developing about South and Mid Canterbury some possibly heavy with thunderstorms, showers push a little further north later in the evening or overnight but they will have eased.

Lower South Island

Cloudy areas with light winds, showers about Southland and parts of Otago from morning. Dry in the morning for northern parts of Otago. In the afternoon showers push further north and most regions could see a heavy fall or two (especially in the east) but they are looking to be isolated in nature. Lght winds gradually pick up from the southwest later in the day.
