Upper North Island

Cloudy, a few showers about Northland by midday then gradually spreading southwards. Rain becoming more persistent by evening for some and possibly heavy overnight. East to southeasterly winds strengthen during the day, gales about eastern Northland and the Coromandel by late afternoon / evening. Widespread strong winds by midnight with gales spreading into Bay Of Plenty, perhaps eastern Waikato and especially towards East Cape.

Lower North Island

Thick high cloud with increasing east to northeasterly winds, the odd light shower about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne by afternoon then turning to rain later in the evening / overnight with heavy falls possible especially for Gisborne northwards. Rain spreads south into the Wairarapa overnight. East to southeasterly winds rising to gale about northern Hawkes Bay and especially Gisborne northwards overnight.

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny with northeasterly winds along the east coast and about Nelson, light winds on the West Coast, high cloud thickens from later in the evening spreading in from the north.

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny with northerly quarter winds, some cloud about Fiordland with the odd light shower there from midday. Later in the evening or overnight a few patchy showers spread east into Southland / Otago.
