Upper North Island

Southwesterly winds, a bit breezy in the afternoon. Sunny areas and some cloud. Warmest temperatures about the Bay Of Plenty.

Lower North Island

Sunny areas and some cloud in the west with westerly winds, gusty from afternoon especially southern Taranaki southwards. Mostly sunny along the east coast with northeasterly winds for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, northwesterlies for the Wairarapa. Wellington sees sunny areas and high cloud, gusty northerlies.

West Coast of the South Island

There may be a few sunny areas this morning and early afternoon about the Glaciers northwards but expect cloud to thicken and move north as the day goes on, west to northwest winds. Some rain about Fiordland this morning spreads into South Westland in the afternoon then North Westland in the evening.

East Coast

Plenty of high cloud with northwesterly winds, a bit breezy for inland areas perhaps even gusty at times. A few spots of rain are possible about Otago around midday then for Canterbury in the evening. A southerly change moves into Otago in the evening bringing cloud and the chance of a light shower, southerlies move into Canterbury late evening or overnight with cloud, a slightly greater risk of showers for Canterbury but still only patchy or in the form of drizzle.

Southland / Nelson

Southland sees gusty northwesterly winds with cloudy skies, the odd spot of rain. Winds change southwest in the afternoon bringing showers which clear in the evening. Morning southwesterlies for Nelson then tending westerly in the afternoon, plenty of high cloud.
