Sunday: Two cold fronts, two islands + two Maps

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Two different cold fronts are today moving up each main island bring more rain to the western side of New Zealand but more mild and fairly sunny weather to many in the east.

The eastern North Island today, lke Hawke’s Bay for example, may reach the low to mid 20s temperature-wise. Many other eastern and northern areas of both islands will be around 19 or 20 although the air does get cooler once you head into Otago.

It won’t be so warm in the west thanks to rain clouds. The front in the North Island falls apart into the afternoon while the front in the South Island will push heavy rain up the West Coast during the afternoon with gusty winds from the westerly quarter. Coolest regions look to be Southland, Otago and the West Coast with highs only just making it into the teens.
