AUCKLAND TO KAITAIA:
 
Winds are starting to pick up as a rapidly deep low moves towards Northland.  Winds in both regions are currently gusting to 70km/h in exposed places.  That wind speed is likely to double in some places tomorrow during gusts.
 
Please be aware that boaties should check moorings this evening as winds could be up to 140km/h in exposed coastal regions tomorrow.  It’s also advised that light outdoor furniture is secured or put away.
 
Winds of up to 120km/h are possible in populated areas.
 
EASTERN WAIKATO/HAURAKI PLAINS:
(From Thames to Matamata)
 
Winds are starting to pick up as a rapidly deep low moves towards Northland.  Winds are currently gusting to about 45km/h in this area but are expected to reach as much as 160km/h in exposed places during gusts.  Residents and Farmers should be prepared for damage to trees and structures as the wind ‘bounces’ off the Kaimai Ranges.  
 
Residents near Mt Te Aroha should be most alert – winds may reach 180km/h in isolated spots around the mountain.
