A building northerly quarter airflow lies over New Zealand today, expect warmer temperatures in the east and north of the country. Cloudy on the South Island’s West Coast with drizzle gradually moving north during the day. A tightly wound low pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly sunny with northeasterlies freshening up from midday, cloud increases in the evening.
High: 24

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of
Plenty

Sunny with some cloud, northeasterly breezes. Cloud thickens in the evening
then overnight drizzle moves in.
Highs: 23-24

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds, east to northeast breezes freshen up during the
afternoon. Evening high cloud moves in.
Highs: 24-25

Western North Island

Sunny with areas of high cloud increasing during the day, light northerlies
tend westerly in the afternoon. For Taranaki expect mostly sunny weather and
some high cloud. Northerly breezes, freshening from evening.
Highs: 21-24

Wellington

High cloud with brisk northerly winds (skies will appear mostly
cloudy).
High: 19

Nelson

Sunny areas and some high cloud, cloud thickens in the evening with drizzle
overnight. Northerly breezes.
Highs: 21-22

Marlborough

Areas of high cloud with sunny spells, high cloud thickens later in the
day. Northwesterlies pick up in the afternoon becoming gusty at times.
Highs: 24-25

Canterbury

Morning low cloud breaks to high cloud with easterly breezes near the
coast, winds tend a little more northerly perhaps even northwest inland with
warmer temperatures.
Highs: 24-28

West Coast

Mostly cloudy skies with northeasterly breezes, freshening from afternoon. Drizzle patches develop about Fiordland this morning then spread further north in the evening or overnight.
High: 18

Coastal Otago

Breezy east to northeast winds with thickening high cloud, spots of rain
possible towards dawn the next morning.
Highs: 18-19

Central Otago

High cloud with northwesterly breezes, thickening in the evening. Scattered
rain moves in overnight.
Highs: 21-23

Southland

Mostly cloudy skies with northerly breezes, rain moves in overnight.
High: 21
