An anticyclone centred just west of New Zealand in the Tasman Sea brings mainly sunny weather to the majority of New Zealand today.

Northland
Sunny with some cloud, south to southwest breezes easing late afternoon and dying out in the evening. Winds on the east coast tend northeasterly in the afternoon then ease evening. Some high cloud moves in later in the day from the north.
Highs: 23-24

Auckland

Sunny with some cloud, cloud morning likely this morning. Southwesterly
breezes, easing a little late afternoon then dying out in the evening.
High: 23

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of
Plenty

Sunny after any early morning cloud clears, southwesterly breezes ease
during the afternoon and die out in the evening. Winds tend northerly in the
evening about the Bay Of Plenty for a time.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

Becoming mostly sunny in the morning, breezy southwesterly winds ease in
the afternoon and die out evening.
Highs: 21-22

Western North Island

Mostly sunny after morning cloud clears, southwesterly breezes tend
westerly in the afternoon south of Taranaki then dying out in the evening. About
Taranaki winds remain from the southwest for much of the day.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Morning cloud clears to mostly sunny weather, brisk southerlies gradually
ease in the afternoon and die out in the evening. Northerlies then pick up
overnight.
Highs: 17-18

Nelson

Sunny with southwesterlies dying out in the morning, afternoon northerly
breezes.
Highs: 20-21

Marlborough

Sunny with southerlies dying out in the morning, afternoon easterly breezes
then northwesterlies push through later in the evening.
Highs: 18- 20

Canterbury

Chance of a few early clearing showers about Banks Peninsula, otherwise
expect mostly sunny weather with southwesterlies dying out in the morning. East
to northeast winds pick up in the afternoon then ease later in the evening as
northwesterlies push through from inland.
Highs: 18-21

West Coast

Sunny with light winds, afternoon west to northwest breezes. Some cloud
moves into South Westland overnight.
High: 19

Coastal Otago

Morning cloud clearing and becoming mostly sunny with west to southwest
winds dying out. Easterly winds freshen from late morning and high cloud moves
in during the evening.
Highs: 17-19

Central Otago

Sunny after a cold start, light winds. Some high cloud from evening with
northwesterlies picking up.
Highs: 24-26

Southland

Mostly sunny with some high cloud gradually increasing during the day,
light northwesterly breezes. Later in the evening cloud thickens with a few
spots of rain. Winds change westerly overnight with any rain clearing.
Highs: 22-23
