A front pushes over the North Island during today in a southwesterly airflow, meanwhile another front moves onto the lower South Island this morning then moving northwards although it weakens as it does.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A few showers, then rain from afternoon with a chance of heavy falls. Rain clears later in the evening or overnight as northwesterly winds change southwest.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain, heavy about Taranaki then easing to a few showers around midday as breezy northwesterlies tend westerly. Showers mostly clear in the evening.
Highs: 14-16

Eastern North Island
Thick high cloud, spots of rain move through the Wairarapa in the morning then further north in the afternoon. Cloud breaks away about the Wairarapa from afternoon then further north in the evening as breezy northwesterlies tend a little more westerly.
Highs: 17-20

Wellington
Morning rain clears then sunny spells increase, strong northwesterly winds ease a little from afternoon.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson
Any early rain clears then mainly sunny, west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible, northwesterly winds gusty about inland areas especially in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-17

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, rain about South Westland may be heavy at times. Some snow for the mountains of Fiordland down to 500m. Westerly winds tend southwest about Fiordland in the morning, reaching North Westland in the evening.
Highs: 8-13

Southland & Otago
Dry first thing about Southland then mid morning a strong westerly change moves in bringing rain which then quickly eases to showers. There may be a heavy fall and perhaps some small hail with the change. Some snow to 500m for a time. Otago doesn’t see showers till midday, when they do move through it will only be for a brief time then sunny areas develop again in the afternoon.
