A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, moving around a high which is centred about southern Australia and stretching right into the Tasman Sea.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas with brief sun at times, a shower or two mainly in the west with drier conditions the further one goes east. Sun more frequent the further one goes east also. Southwesterly winds freshen early in the morning then easing in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, clearing in the evening. Westerlies change to the south or southeast around midday in the south then by evening about Taranaki.
Highs: 10-16

Eastern North Island

Some sun and high cloud. A gusty southwest change develops during the morning about the Wairarapa then moving further north around midday bringing cloudy areas and a few showers. Showers clear in the evening with southwesterlies dying out at night.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington

Early sun then a gusty southerly change mid morning brings cloudy areas and the risk of a shower.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

A sunny morning for Marlborough, some cloud possible from mid morning as winds change to the southeast. Skies clear by evening with winds becoming calm. Nelson sees morning cloud then breaking to a mostly sunny afternoon, light winds.
High: 13-15

Canterbury

A brisk southwest change in the morning brings cloudy areas, the odd shower possible. Some sun may break through later in the day as southwesterly winds die out in the evening.
Highs: 9-11

West Coast

Early showers clear then sunny spells increase, cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy about Southland with the odd shower, long dry periods too especially around midday. Otago sees early showers clear then expect sunny spells. West to southwesterly winds, breezy about Southland.
Highs: 9-10
