A northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, becoming unstable this afternoon for many inland parts of the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells, a few showers at times especially afternoon some of which may become heavy with thunderstorms, particularly about the Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty however the risk does reside elsewhere about the upper North Island. Shower activity easing later in the evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Showers, some may be heavy with thunderstorms in the afternoon then easing later in the evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 22-25

Eastern North Island

A chance of morning sun then showers develop in the afternoon, some may be heavy with thunderstorms then easing later in the evening. East to northeasterly winds.
High: 24

Wellington

Areas of rain or drizzle with easterly winds.
High: 23

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with patchy showers or drizzle, clearing in the evening. East to Sou’Easterly winds.
High: 22

Canterbury

Some morning rain or showers (more likely Banks Peninsula northwards), easing to drizzle around midday then clearing evening. Breezy east to northeasterly winds.
High: 19

West Coast

High cloud with brief areas of sun at times, light winds.
Highs: 23-25

Southland & Otago

Mainly sunny weather, coastal Otago is fairly cloudy with the chance of a few drizzle patches. Light winds for most, brisk ENE winds about coastal Otago.
Highs: 18-26
