A cool south to southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, showers about especially in the east while it’s sunnier and drier out west for the most part.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Early showers clear then expect sunny spells, breezy southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, clearing in the evening. Taranaki however (more so in the north) sees any early showers clear then expect sunny spells. Cool south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Eastern North Island

Southwesterlies freshen early in the morning bringing increasing cloud, the odd shower mainly in the afternoon then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington

Cloudy areas and the odd shower, long dry spells too. Breezy southerly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Areas of cloud, showers develop in the afternoon with the chance of an isolated heavy fall / thunderstorms and hail then clearing overnight. South to southeasterly winds although perhaps tending northerly in the afternoon for Nelson.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury

Occasional showers (mainly coastal) with cool southwesterly winds, conditions may become drier from afternoon near the coast with some sun even possible however inland showers may become heavy in isolated spots then easing in the evening. Drying out for most overnight.
High: 12

West Coast

Any early showers clear then mostly sunny, Buller (more so inland) may see isolated showers late afternoon / evening then clearing later on. South to southeasterly winds.
High: 15-16

Southland & Otago

Morning showers clear although the odd one may linger till evening. Sunny spells breaking through at times, cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-14
