A front moves northwards over the South Island today bringing heavy falls and thunderstorms in the west, high cloud in the east with a few spots of rain for a time. The North Island sits under a northwesterly airflow.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

The odd morning patchy shower for the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty then some sun possible in the afternoon. Sunny areas from morning further north. Winds from the west or northwest.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the odd patchy shower then clearing in the evening. West to northwest winds.
Highs: 22-24

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with a few clouds about, chance of an isolated shower or two late afternoon / evening then clearing away. Winds mainly light.
Highs: 27-30

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with a few showers from morning, northwesterly winds strengthen.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy, the odd spot of rain at times, more so about Nelson. Later in the evening or overnight a more persistent band of rain moves through. Winds gusty from the north becoming strong after midday.
Highs: 21-27

Canterbury

High cloud thickens from morning, a few spots of rain late afternoon and / or evening. More persistent rain possible about the foothills around that time also. Breezy northerly quarter winds, gusty about inland areas in the evening.
Highs: 26-27

West Coast

Cloudy with rain, becoming heavy in the afternoon. Heavy falls of rain from afternoon with thunderstorms then easing overnight. Winds gusty from the north.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago

Cloudy with a few spells of rain at times from afternoon, breezy north to northeasterly winds change southwest later in the evening.
Highs: 22-23
