A front moves northwards over the South Island today, rain in the west with only a few scattered areas spreading east. The North Island has a weakening ridge of high pressure, cloud slowly closes in from the west with showers from afternoon or evening, drier out east with some sun.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Becoming mostly cloudy by midday, the odd shower possible from afternoon. The Bay Of Plenty is dry all day with cloud increasing in the afternoon. Auckland may also be dry all day with clouds building later. Northeasterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Becoming cloudy today, areas of rain or showers move into Taranaki during the afternoon then elsewhere in the evening. Increasing northerly winds.
Highs: 12-16
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, high cloud gradually moves in during the afternoon then spreads northwards. Overnight spots of rain. North to northwesterly winds, breezy at times about the Wairarapa.
Becoming cloudy in the morning, the odd shower from evening. Breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 15
Marlborough & Nelson
A sunny start then high cloud moving in before midday and thickening, breezy north to northwesterly winds. A few spots of rain late afternoon / evening.
High cloud thickens from morning, increasing northeasterly winds. A few spots of rain mid to late afternoon.
Rain about South Westland with heavy falls, the odd shower further north. Rain pushes further north during the day but weakens as it does then clearing later in the evening as northerlies change southerly.

Southland & Otago
A few spells of rain clear by mid morning, sunny areas then develop in the afternoon with northeasterlies tending northwest. Central Otago may see a few further showers move through late afternoon / evening.
