A ridge builds over the South Island today bringing progressively more settled weather, the North Island sits under a low which brings unsettled conditions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain develops early in the morning, rain changing tack to showers in the afternoon some of which could be heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the evening. Northerlies changing to the southerly quarter by evening.
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Morning rain eases to showers by midday then clearing by evening, light
winds tend east to southeasterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

A mostly cloudy day, the odd spot of rain in the morning more persistent
about the Wairarapa then a few afternoon showers as light winds tend southerly.
Showers clear by evening.
Highs: 18

Wellington

Morning rain (possibly heavy) eases to the odd shower which clears late
afternoon, cloud breaks later in the evening. Breezy cool southerly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Early rain clears, cloud breaks in the afternoon with clear skies by
evening, southeasterly winds die down later in the day for Marlborough. Light
afternoon northeasterly winds for Nelson.
Highs: 18

Canterbury

Morning showers clear, cloud gradually breaking during the afternoon with
clear skies by evening. Southerly winds ease later in the day.
High: 14

West Coast

Becoming sunny early on with southeasterly winds, easing afternoon.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny weather after any morning cloud clears, cloud thickens from
evening however. Light winds for most with northeasterlies along the Otago
coastline.
Highs: 14-15
