A front moves north over the upper South Island this morning then onto the North Island during the rest of the day. Expect rain in the west with a few brief falls spreading east, winds strong from the northwest before the front moves through.

Auckland & Northland
Northwest winds picking up then turn southwest by evening. Some afternoon rain develops then easing this evening to showers.
Highs: 18-20

Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas with freshening westerlies, afternoon showers then clearing
evening as winds tend a little more southwest.
High: 19

Waikato & Central North Island

Odd shower then rain developing in the morning, clearing afternoon as brisk
northwesterlies change southwest. Cloud breaks to a few sunny areas mid
afternoon onwards.
Highs: 17-18

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud in the morning with a few brief showers possible then
becoming mostly sunny around midday, gusty west to northwest winds.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island

A period of morning showers then clearing, sunny spells with strong to gale
WSW winds.
High: 17

Wellington

A period of morning showers then clearing, sunny spells with strong to gale
northwesterlies.
High: 17

Nelson

Any early rain clears then expect sunny spells with brisk westerly
winds.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with brisk westerly winds, some high cloud about mainly early
on.
High: 21

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some cloud, morning southwesterlies ease with light winds
developing this afternoon. Overnight further showers are possible with a
southwest change.

West Coast

Heavy early rain eases to showers, showers heavy at times from afternoon
mainly about South Westland. Brisk westerlies.

Coastal Otago

Sunny spells with gusty west to southwest winds, a few showers late
afternoon / evening.

Central Otago

Cloudy spells with occasional showers and a risk of small hail, clearing
later in the evening. Breezy westerlies.

Southland

Showers, heavy at times with hail then easing later in the evening. Strong
westerly winds. Some snow to 600m.
