Two weak areas of low pressure lie over the South Island today while a slow moving front lies over the North Island. Fairly cloudy for most with patchy showers over the South Island, becoming more restricted to inland areas this afternoon. For the North Island the slow moving front brings patchy rain / drizzle, some could see long dry spells too.

Northland
Periods of rain / drizzle, northerly winds. Winds gradually swing around to the south later in the evening with rain easing overnight.
Highs: 18-19

Auckland

Mostly cloudy with the odd brief shower, some rain at times afternoon
onwards.
High: 18

Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with patchy rain, northerly winds.
High: 18

Waikato & Central North Island

Patchy rain with light northerly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

High cloud with north to northeasterly winds, some rain may spread into
northern Wairarpa / southern Hawkes Bay at times from the west. Rain becoming a
little more widespread and persistent overnight for Hawkes Bay and perhaps
southern Gisborne.
Highs: 19-21

Taranaki

Any early rain clears then expect sunny spells with light northwesterlies.
Winds tend southerly later in the evening.
High: 18

Western North Island

Any remaining showers clear in the morning, light northwesterlies tend
southerly later in the evening.
High: 19

Wellington

Sunny spells with northwestly winds tending southerly in the evening. Cloud
increases later.
High: 16

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light northerlies, late afternoon / evening there is the
risk of an isolated shower mainly inland.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough

Sunny in the morning with light winds, easterlies from afternoon bring some
increasing cloud. Late afternoon / evening there could be an isolated shower or
two mainly inland then clearing at nigh.
High: 18

Canterbury

Cloudy with the odd drizzle patch possible, any drizzle / patchy shower
activity becoming more restricted to inland areas from afternoon with conditions
drying out near the coast. Gentle southerly winds.
High: 13

West Coast

Any morning showers clear then sunny spells increase, light winds. Late
afternoon / evening there may be a few isolated showers inland about the ranges.
One or two could be heavy especially about inland Buller with the risk of a
thunderstorm then easing overnight.
Highs: 15-16

Coastal Otago

Occasional showers, clearing by evening. Southerly winds.
High: 12

Central Otago

Periods of cloud with light southerlies, chance of a shower too mainly
afternoon. Cloud breaks away overnight with temperatures becoming fairly
cool.
High: 11-12

Southland

Cloudy with the odd light shower, long dry spells too. Any remaining
showers clear by evening with cloud breaking up overnight.
High: 12
