A front crosses the North Island today, heavy rain precedes the front then easing to a few showers as it moves through, gusty northeasterlies changing lighter northwest. Plenty of high cloud for the South Island, mainly dry on the east coast and wet in the west.

Early heavy rain eases to occasional showers, northwesterlies tend westerly in the evening. Sunny spells break through from late morning.

Auckland

Morning rain with heavy falls then easing to occasional showers around
midday as gusty northeasterlies tend lighter northerly, heavier rain may move in to the east during the early to mid afternoon. A few sunny spells break
through at times from afternoon, especially in the west.

Bay Of Plenty

Rain, heavy during the afternoon then easing in the evening as strong
northeasterlies ease.
High: 16

Waikato & Central North Island

Rain, heavy for a time in the afternoon then easing evening as gusty
northeasterlies back off.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island

Cloudy skies, areas of rain develop in the afternoon. Brisk northeasterly
winds.
High: 16

Taranaki

Rain, heavy at first for northern parts of the region then easing a little
in the afternoon. Strong to gale northeasterlies ease in the morning, rain
clears around midnight with winds easing further.

Western North Island

Periods of rain with breezy northeasterlies, rain clears in the evening
with winds easing.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington

Periods of rain with brisk northeasterlies, rain eases in the evening with
winds tending a little more northerly.

Nelson

Rain with heavy falls, easing mid to late afternoon to the odd shower as
brisk northerlies tend lighter northerly.

Marlborough

Rain, heavy about the Sounds with brisk northeasterlies, rain eases in the
evening with winds easing too and tending more northerly.

Canterbury
High cloud with brisk
northeasterly winds which ease overnight, chance spot of rain early afternoon
especially inland.

Periods of rain with northeasterly winds, tending more northwest in the
evening.

Coastal Otago

Areas of high cloud with breezy northeasterlies easing from afternoon, a
few spots of rain possible around midnight.

Central Otago

Plenty of high cloud with northerlies, a few brief spells of rain at times
(mainly west of the Southern Lakes region).

Southland

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, dry spells too. Light winds.
High: 13
