RainWatch

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Showers are drifting across Taranaki late this morning.  A few showers were also found about the upper South Island.

Around Christchurch, a southerly change is bringing heavy showers and a few thunderstorms to the area.  According to Government forecaster MetService, an active thunderstorm had developed near the coast SE of Ashburton around 10 o’clock this morning.

For that reason, MetService says they will be watching Christchruch and the Canterbury Plains for possible development of severe weather through early afternoon.

As we head into this evening, the rain chances over Canterbury will clear leaving most of the Mainland dry.  A few showers will still be possible about the Marlborough area.

Showers will also be possible about the central and western sections of the North Island.  Wellington and Wairarapa could see showers late tonight.  Rainfall amounts are expected to be light in all North Island locations.

Tomorrow, showers are possible from Wairarapa to Gisborne.  Also the upper tip of the North Island could see a few showers.  Rainfall amounts are again expected to be light.
