Rain and showers spreading – The Big Picture on Wednesday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

On Wednesday we have a gusty northeasterly airflow over New Zealand, while a low sits to the west of the South Island in the Tasman Sea, and a front extending all the way up to Northland.

For the North Island, it’s looking fairly cloudy in the west, along with the odd shower about the upper North Island too.
Rain in Northland becomes heavy in the late afternoon or evening.
Rain becomes heavy about Taranaki overnight too, while the East Coast has some morning sun, then thickening high cloud by around midday.

In the South Island, rain sticks around in the west, with the odd heavy fall from afternoon.
Southland and Otago see rain spreading down from the northwest from afternoon and into the evening, after a dry start in the morning and some high cloud.

Rain in Nelson from late morning becomes heavy overnight, while Marlborough has high cloud, and the odd spot of rain from afternoon – otherwise staying mainly dry, with heavier showers or rain more likely overnight.
Canterbury sees high cloud thickening from morning, while some rain spreads from the west for a time in the late afternoon or evening.
