After a wet start to spring, and an extremely wet last week for parts of the country, we wanted to know how New Zealanders were faring in the soggy aftermath.
Many people have been writing to us to complain about the further rainfall, while others have welcomed steady, consistent rainfall for the first time in months, especially in North Canterbury, where it’s been described as “a game changer” by some farmers there.
Well, it seems that they’re in the minority, according to the results of our latest poll, which showed nearly 70% of those who voted are well and truly satiated, rainwise at this time of year.
A further 25% seem to be in a good place to take whatever comes, while the remaining 7% are still too dry for comfort – though that may have changed in the last week!

Ouch! Yes we knew it wasn’t every farm that had a positive story. Really pleased you contacted us – we only report on the information we have so the more farmers that speak up (even if 100% disagreeing with us) is something we hugely respect and encourage.
Jeez 12mm isn’t much – sorry to hear that, and hope our story on the ‘game changer’ didn’t add to your frustration. We are accutely aware of respecting farmers and growers dealing with adverse weather/climate conditions.
Thanks for the update from your area
