Poll Results: Early spring sees early allergies

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Many parts of New Zealand have enjoyed early spring conditions since the end of July with some blossom already in bloom from Southland to Northland and pollen in the air, especially on the windy days (and mostly thanks to pine).

Many plants don’t fully trigger into spring until later in September and October, as despite the early warm weather a number of plants also need more sunlight and the days don’t get longer than the nights until we pass the equinox in just over three weeks time.

But the allergens are in the air with 55% of those responding to our recent poll saying Yes they are being affected by hayfever/allergies now.

15% said no but expect to be suffering soon.

A solid 30% said hayfever doesn’t normally affect them.
