POLL RESULTS: 60% of New Zealanders oppose live sheep export

> From the WeatherWatch archives

WeatherWatch.co.nz has always covered more than just weather – and with so many New Zealanders connected to the rural world we thought this topical poll would be interesting.

Two weeks ago news media broke the story about the country’s largest ever live sheep export, of 50,000 animals, to Mexico.

Many of our readers were in touch with us on twitter and here at the website to voice their opinions – so we wanted to get the general mood of our audience in last week’s poll.

60% of voters said they were opposed to the idea – while almost a third were in support, and just 8% undecided on the issue.

Whatever the prevailing mood of New Zealanders, live exports are continuing around the world*, as breeding stocks are replenished and expanded internationally – so they aren’t going away any time soon.

The poll ran at WeatherWatch.co.nz this week and around 450 people voted.

Watch this space for our next poll, coming on Sunday morning!

My gosh, where and when will it end?? Why does this National government send all our good produce (AND NOW WANTS TO DO THE SAME WITH OUR LIVESTOCK??) overseas to China, the Middle East, Europe, USA, now Mexico??? Seriously folks, the apples, pears and kiwifruit alone in our stores are only 2 steps down from PIG FOOD!!! If that isn’t a wake-up call, I don’t know what is.

Signed

Someone who picked and graded apples, pears, kiwifruit and strawberries in the past.
