Temperatures appear to be the warmest in inland areas this afternoon however some cloud is also building in the south with the risk of a few heavy showers.
20s are commonplacewhich is not surprising at this time of year but much of the country is seeing gentle breezes or not much wind at all however over the next 48 hours the winds are expected to pick up.
Auckland has seen its usual array of sunshine and cloud with the odd shower either already fallen or could build this afternoon and Christchurch began the day with mist and fog but sunshine and some cloud has seen the temperaturature rise quite quickly in the last 3-4 hours.
Tonight the conditions are expected to be mild to warm again for much of the nation however cloud could roll in again for numerous coastal areas, especially in the south but the cloud does tend to keep a little warmth in if there is to be a positive side to things!.
Temperatures overall so far this month have tended to be a little higher than average in most centres overnight but inland and eastern areas of the South island tend to see a cooling off just before dawn.
Cooler conditions are still likely to move into the south on Friday bringing a brief respite from the recent heat before taking off again next week.
