Purple: Gale force northwest winds through Cook Strait, and strong winds for the west of the North Island.
Purple: Cold winds from the southwest in the South Island and northwest in the North Island from morning.
Light blue: Showers for almost the entire North Island and most of the South Island at times through the day.
Blue: Showers along the east coasts of both islands, as well as the west of the North Island – along with the risk of hail, as the southerly airflow cools air temperature around the country.
Purple: Cold southerly quarter winds – with a risk of gales at times – all along the eastern coastline of the South Island, through to Wellington and Wairarapa – and right up to the Hawkes Bay, Gisborne, Auckland and Northland.
The southwest winds ease later in the day, while gales are more likely in exposed western areas at times.
