Another day of convective showers for some North Island areas today, thunderstorms and heavy rain in the mix too. Some areas of course will remain dry with mostly sunny weather. In the South Island, the main feature will be potential thunderstorms developing north of about Dunedin early afternoon through to North Canterbury later in the evening on a southerly wind change.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny with a few clouds about, light winds and afternoon sea breezes.
Isolated showers mid afternoon onwards, some heavy with thunderstorms then
clearing in the evening.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of
Plenty

Mostly sunny, light winds and afternoon sea breezes about the Bay Of
Plenty. Mid afternoon onwards expect isolated showers, some heavy with
thunderstorms about inland areas then easing and clearing later in the
evening.
Highs: 24-26

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, light winds and afternoon sea breezes. From mid expect
isolated showers, mainly inland about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with
possible heavy downpours and thunderstorms then clearing later in the
evening.
Highs: 24-25

Western North Island

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, cloud starts to increase in the
afternoon as winds tend more westerly. The odd shower from evening. About
southern Taranaki through to about Taihape a few isolated showers may develop
early afternoon, one or two could be briefly heavy with thunderstorms for a time
then easing before evening.

Wellington

Sunny spells with brisk northerly winds developing in the morning, some
rain moves in later in the evening.
Highs: 20-21

Nelson

Early sunny areas then expect increasing high cloud with northerlies
building, a few showers from late afternoon then clearing overnight. Showers may
be heavy inland.
Highs: 22-23

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with northwesterly breezes and some high cloud thickening
around midday. A few showers possible from afternoon then clearing
overnight.
Highs: 26-27

Canterbury

Areas of high cloud with light winds, high cloud clearing about South and
Mid Canterbury in the afternoon. Southerlies push into South Canterbury late
afternoon then into North Canterbury later in the evening, this wind change will
likely bring showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and hail.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast

Rain, easing to showers in the afternoon as northwesterlies change
southwest. A few sunny spells possible at times from afternoon also.
Highs: 18-19

Coastal Otago

Chance of an early shower then expect mostly sunny weather with light winds
tending westerly. Winds change fresh southwest in the afternoon with showers,
some becoming heavy with thunderstorms and hail north of about Dunedin.
Highs: 17-18

Central Otago

Early rain clears to mostly sunny weather and west to northwest breezes,
late afternoon winds change southwest with some cloud and the odd shower
especially in the east.
Highs: 20-22

Southland

Areas of cloud and a few sunny spells with west to northwest breezes,
around midday a cool southwest change moves in bringing showers which then clear
in the evening.
High: 16
