A front moves northwards over the South Island today reaching the western North Island later this evening, northwesterlies precede the front then tending west to northwest in behind.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, showers or perhaps some rain more likely later in the evening / overnight as northwesterly winds change southwest. The Bay Of Plenty has less chance of a shower during the day with some sun now and then.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, some late evening / overnight rain as northwesterly winds change southwest.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, evening showers then clearing overnight. Freshening northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, there may be a spot of rain in the evening mainly about Nelson. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury
Increasing high cloud, brief spot of rain possible late afternoon / evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast
Rain with heavy falls and thunderstorms spreading northwards along the coast during the day, easing in the evening as northwesterlies change southwest.
Highs: 10-12

Southland & Otago
A few areas of rain develop late morning then clearing during the afternoon as northwest winds change west to southwest. Some sun breaks through.
Highs: 10-13
