A low is centred out to the west of the North Island today bringing in a humid northerly quarter airflow, this brings the risk of some unstable weather in the afternoon. Southerlies over the South Island strengthen over the lower North Island from afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Any early heavy rain easing then expect sunny spells, may be the odd shower. Cloud builds this afternoon with isolated showers moving in, perhaps the chance of heavy falls and thunderstorms then easing later this evening. Humid North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny spells this morning, chance of a shower or two. Showers more likely this afternoon with a risk of heavy falls and thunderstorms then easing later this evening. East to northeast winds tend southeast this afternoon although southeast winds not reaching Taranaki till evening.
Highs: 21-25

Eastern North Island

Some rain this morning about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne then clearing away otherwise expect sunny spells. During the afternoon cloud builds and showers are looking more likely again with heavy falls even possible then easing later this evening. Light winds tend southerly this afternoon about the Wairarapa then pushing into Hawkes Bay this evening.

Wellington

Sunny spells, light northerlies change southerly this afternoon then strengthen. A few showers this evening.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy areas and the odd shower, perhaps even some sunny spells. Southeasterly winds freshen later this morning.
Highs: 21

Canterbury

Rain, easing this afternoon to drizzle which clears later this evening or overnight. Parts of North Canterbury may be dry for a time this morning till rain moves in by midday. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast
Showers ease then clear around midday, sunny areas increase from afternoon. Showers may not clear Buller till evening. Southeasterlies develop.

Highs: 22-24

Southland & Otago

Any morning cloud about Southland breaks to mostly sunny weather. Otago sees a few showers this morning, clearing by midday then sunny areas increase. Southerlies tend easterly this afternoon
Highs: 15-19
