A north to northeasterly airflow increases over New Zealand today, a front pushes into the South Island from afternoon then moves over the North Island later this evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and increasing cloud, the odd shower from evening mainly Waikato southwards, some overnight rain. Northerly winds freshen.
Highs: 19-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Becoming mostly cloudy this morning, the odd light shower from midday turning to rain this evening with heavy falls possible later especially about Taranaki. Rain may not move into the Central North Island till overnight. North to northwesterly winds stengthen.
Highs: 17-20

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, high cloud increasing from afternoon then some rain spreads in during the evening. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-24

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, the odd shower from afternoon then evening rain. Breezy northerly winds.

High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Thickening high cloud, rain develops late morning about Nelson then spreading into Marlborough during the afternoon. Rain becoming heavy about Nelson and some western parts of Marlborough late afternoon. Freshening north to northwesterly winds.
High: 17-18

Canterbury

Thickening high cloud, rain develops late afternoon or evening then clearing overnight. East to northeasterly winds becoming breezy from afternoon.
High: 16

West Coast

Cloudy with the odd shower, rain from afternoon becoming heavy. Thunderstorms from evening. Increasing northeasterly winds then tending more north to northwest around midnight.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago

Thickening high cloud, some rain develops late afternoon or evening. Easterly winds.
Highs: 15-16
