A tightly packed low pressure system and front moves over the North Island today, expect some rain this morning with heavy falls for some then easing to showers this afternoon. Winds quite strong from the west. The South Island is tamer by comparison, more details below.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning showers or rain, heavy for some then easing to showers. Brisk to strong westerly winds. Winds may gust to gale especially in exposed western coastal areas.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Rain with heavy falls this morning then easing to showers this afternoon as northerly winds change westerly. Westerlies strong about Taranaki with coastal gales likely.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud, some rain moves in late morning then clears this afternoon as northwesterlies change southwest. Some sun late in the day.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington

Showers, mostly clearing this afternoon as northerlies change southerly. Further overnight showers.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning drizzle patches then clearing away, chance of a few afternoon sunny spells. Light winds.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury

Morning showers clear then a few afternoon sunny spells break through, further overnight showers. Southwesterly winds.
High: 11

West Coast

A few early morning showers clear North Westland then expect some sun, mainly sunny further south. Further showers possible later in the evening north of about the Glaciers. Light winds.
High: 13

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy, chance of a light shower or two from afternoon mainly about Southland otherwise mostly dry. Light winds tend southwest.
High: 10
