A low moves over the North Island today bringing rain to the upper half with heavy falls for some. Some brief rain possible for the lower half but mostly clearing this morning. The South Island sits under a westerly airflow, cloudy areas in the west and mainly sunny out east apart from some morning cloud about Nelson / Marlborough.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of rain with heavy falls possible, easing to showers this afternoon as northwesterly winds change southwest. Rain about the Bay Of Plenty becomes potentially heavy towards midday then eases mid to late afternoon. Showers clearing for most by evening.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any morning rain clears, fairly cloudy although some sun may break through from afternoon. East to southeast winds tend southwest this afternoon for most. Further inland towards the Central North Island expect rain to ease to showers this afternoon then clearing in the evening, light winds.

Eastern North Island
Rain eases to patchy showers this afternoon then mostly clearing later in the evening or overnight. Mainly dry for the Wairarapa. Light southerlies tend east to northeast after midday.

Cloud breaks to sunny areas this morning, becoming mostly sunny this afternoon. Southeasterly winds gradually tend northerly some time after midday.

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning cloud breaks to a mainly sunny afternoon, light winds tend north to northeasterly after midday.

Sunny with east to northeasterly winds near the coast, light winds inland.

West Coast
Cloudy areas and some sun, chance of a shower mainly about Fiordland. Winds swing around to the southwest this afternoon.

High cloud thickens from this morning about Southland and Otago this afternoon. West to northwesterly winds, strong at times from afternoon about Southland. The odd spot of evening rain.
