A brisk westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, mostly cloudy in the west with the odd shower or some rain. Sunnier out east with warmer weather. Showers about Southland, Otago and perhaps Canterbury Banks Peninsula southwards for a time.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas with breezy west to southwesterly winds, chance of a shower now and then otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas with breezy westerly winds, chance of a light shower now and then (especially this morning) otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 17-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny with westerly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Wellington

Mainly sunny with north to northwesterly winds becoming strong at times this afternoon.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Mainly sunny today with northwesterly winds picking up this afternoon.

Canterbury

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, west to northwest winds. There may be an isolated shower or two this afternoon Banks Peninsula southwards on a southerly wind change.

West Coast

Cloudy with a few showers, rain about South Westland from this morning spreads north this afternoon with the chance of a few heavy falls. Breezy west to northwest winds.

Southland & Otago

A mostly cloudy day for Southland, the odd shower from afternoon then some overnight rain. Areas of patchy rain or the odd shower about Central Otago from morning spread to the coast in the afternoon. Breezy west to southwesterly winds.
